Well, the storm finally arrived. It’s not a blizzard (not much wind), but still a storm. I’ve found that there are three types of drivers in storms (the same thing held true in So. Cal., so it must be a national thing, not a regional thing).
You get those who actually try to drive safely. They slow down their speed and drive a safe distance from the car in front of them.
Then there are those who think they need to drive 5 miles per hour everywhere they go (including the fast lane of the highway). I think they cause more accidents than they prevent. Today I saw a guy who kept hitting his breaks, even when nobody was in front of him. He clearly didn’t know that hitting your breaks in slippery conditions is what causes most spinouts thus should be avoided unless there’s a reason to hit your breaks (like traffic stopping), not just because your foot is getting bored on the gas and wants to try something new.
Finally, you get those who don’t adjust their driving at all. Those are the ones who weave in and out of traffic to get to the 70, 80, or 90 miles per hour they’re used to driving. My boss was passed by one of those this morning…a few minutes later he passed the same guy after the guy ran into the center median. Hmm, driving fast in slippery conditions causes you to slip. Go figure.
The roads were pretty bad today (took me almost 2 1/2 hours to get to work rather than my normal 1), but not the worst I’ve seen. After all, I could see past my hood today. That’s always a good thing. I could’ve worked from home today, but I was afraid he wouldn’t let me work from home again on Friday when I’m scheduled to. I’ve got something going on Friday night that’s important enough to me that I don’t want to be late for it. So, here I am at work, wishing I was home, dreading the drive home (to small group, actually). Seems to snow every time I try to get to small group….I think I’ve been late for the past two or three, and I’m usually the first one there. Some of you may know that I hate being late, probably because I grew up around Brazilians who are always late!
Well, this is the longest post I’ve written in awhile, so I’ll sign off before it turns into a book. Laterz!
