Earthquakes

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Am I the only one who’s noticed the increased activity lately?  We had a 5.2 here, a 4.7 in Reno (they’ve actually had multiple quakes over many days), a 5.2 in Northern California, and a 6.4 in Mexico.  The quakes are in separate areas on separate faults.  They don’t seem related, but there has to be something.  Experts believe there may be a quake of at least 6.0 in Reno (which is more than ten times stronger than what they’ve had so far) because of all the recent quake activity.  Considering the amount of damage the 4.7 has done (breaking windows and bricks falling off walls), a 6.0 would be pretty bad in that area.  I just keep wondering why there is suddenly so much seismic activity.  I guess we may soon find out.  Laterz!

Snow!

Monday, April 28th, 2008

So, about a week and a half ago I was talking to somebody at church about the nice weather we were having at the time and boldly proclaimed that it would snow one more time before summer.  She told me that wouldn’t happen.  I was quite pleased when I went to my car at lunch and it was snowing (okay it was sleet, but that’s just snow mixed with rain so technically it was still snowing).  Just goes to show you, never doubt my crazy predictions! :-)   Laterz!

Fun & Games

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

I’m working on another change to my site.  I’m adding a new “Fun & Games” page.  I’m going to add Dilbert comics (more, if I can) and some online games.  I’m working on getting the code (and the appropriate permissions) and working out a design.  It’s going to be pretty simple, but I want to lay everything out in a way that’s not cluttered and is easy to get around.  I’m also working on adding more pictures to my new pictures page.  There are some I’m not going to put up, but I’m also adding some new ones.  I’m not sure if I’m going to add the Brazil photos because of how many there are.  I might change my mind later.  I don’t think many people have been looking at the six year old pics, anyway.  If you’re really interested in me keeping them, let me know.  Otherwise, as soon as I upload the last group of pics, I’m switching my pictures page over.  At that point, I’ll start adding more pictures from time to time.  Laterz!

Quake

Friday, April 18th, 2008

I think it’s absolutely hilarious that after listening to everybody talk about how earthquakes in California scare them for the past two years, a 5.2 quake hits Illinois.  I only wish it was during the day so more people could’ve felt.  Were any of you up at 4:30 to feel it (or get awakened by it)?  5.2 is enough to do a little damage and enough for most people to feel it.  However, the ground is different here than California so it would’ve felt different than a 5.2 in California.  At least there was no major damage and nobody was hurt.  By the way, the largest quake in history in that area was a 5.4 in 1968, so we almost made history this morning.  Laterz!

The Finger, Part 2

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

Well, it’s not fractured.  I’m being referred to a hand specialist to see what he has to say.  Now I just wait for a phone call.  The splint she told me to put on it seems to be making it more swollen and painful, so she told me to take it off.  I like the protection it affords, so I’ll probably wear it, but wear it less (so I can type).  At this point I just want to be able to play soccer & basketball, so I want it resolved.  We’ll see.  Laterz!

The Finger

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

No, not that finger.  You know me better than that.  Anyway, I finally went to the doctor today and got some x-rays on  my finger after injuring it in our final soccer game (we won) about six weeks ago.  The doc will call me on Friday to give me the results.  She obviously couldn’t say anything definitive before seeing the x-rays, but she thought I have the same injury Kobe does.  I may have sprained the finger and when the tendon pulled, it chipped a bone.  I’m not really sure what that would mean for me, but Kobe needs surgery.  She also mentioned it may be something else which just needs physical therapy.  By the way, it’s really hard to type or write with a brace on your finger.  Well, that’s my update for today.

On a side note, I’m considering having a trivia question every week to see who can figure it out, but I’m not sure if I have enough readers to make it worthwhile.  Let me know if you’re still out there.  Laterz!

Site Update Update

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

Well, I’ve decided to keep my current blog because I didn’t want to lose my history. I uploaded a couple of albums to Picasa to get an idea of what it would be like. It’s much easier to upload photos and I can include dates and even a map of where the photos were taken. It’s pretty sweet. However, it’s also much more public than what I currently have. That means I have to be a bit more careful about what I upload. I can add the ability to download photos and even purchase them. I’m already pretty careful about what I add there, so I may just leave it public, then add links on here to private ones if I upload anything I want to keep out of the public eye. Check it out here and let me know what you think. Laterz!

Rush, Rush, Rush

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

I was thinking today about the hurried pace of American life.  So few Americans actually enjoy sitting down and enjoying life.  Everybody’s in a hurry.  Adults are in a hurry to get everywhere (even if they don’t want to be there) and drive 90 miles per hour everywhere.  Children & youth are in a hurry to spend their money, see the latest movie, play the latest game, and get the latest toy.  Why is everybody in such a hurry?  I can tell you that I have never had a job I enjoyed so much that I was in a hurry to get there.  I once had somebody actually get upset with me because I wasn’t in a hurry.  We weren’t running late.  We weren’t meeting anybody.  There was no time table.  She just wanted me to hurry for the sake of hurrying.  I just don’t understand it.  Take a moment to relax and enjoy the planet God created for you.  I promise that everything you’re in a hurry to do will still be there when you’re done.  Laterz!

Site Update

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

I know I haven’t been posting often, but I’m looking into a few upgrades around here.  I’m actually thinking of heavily using various Google services to improve my site.  I can actually allow you to chat with me directly from my site, I may replace the photo gallery with Picassa, I may add a link so you can see my calendar (at least when I’m busy), and I may create a group or two to keep people linked (like one for my family and one for my Zone small group, etc.)  Things have been extremely slow at work (my next scheduled task is on Friday…it’s Tuesday) so I hope to do some research this week.  I’ll probably change the structure of my site a little to have a main page, then link to the blog.  Speaking of the blog, I haven’t decided if I’m going to just upgrade to Wordpress 2.5 (I’m currently using 2.0.2) or switch to Google’s Blogger.  It’s a nice tool, but I’d lose my entire history of postings.  I’m not sure I want to do that.  If I can find a way to import it, I’d probably switch.  For those of you who are tech-savvy, my site changes will actually allow you to view some of this stuff from your cell phone.  Pretty cool, huh?  I’ll keep you posted.  Laterz!
