Isaiah

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

Well, it turns out Isaiah (who came back from Michigan with my brother…and Elijah) has Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC). It is a genetic condition which has a few symptoms including seizures. Here are two sites which talk about it:

Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance

MedlinePlus: Tuberous Sclerosis

Apparently, there is no known cure, but affected people can live a full, normal life span if they continue to get medical attention. I guess it’s nice to know what it is, but I wish it was something that had some sort of treatment. At this point, it seems they’ll just be hoping to treat the symptoms and hope to prevent seizures in the future. Well, that’s all for now. Laterz!

Busy, Busy, Busy

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

I survived being sick…only to get wiped out with a sleepover for my jr. high group from church.  Only three of the boys were able to make it, but it was still a lot of fun.  I’m not entirely sure why it’s called a sleepover, though.  There wasn’t much sleep happening.  They spent most of the night playing video games.  When I finally sent them to bed, I put in a movie to see if they’d fall asleep.  One was already out, one fell asleep fairly quickly, but the third stayed up for the entire movie.  I wanted him to go to sleep so bad so I could sleep.  Although the adults outnumbered the children in the house (five adults to three children), I still don’t like falling asleep while any of them is awake.  Amazingly, four hours later he was the first to wake up.  I was about ready to duct tape him into his sleeping bag (joking!).

Thanks to an entire week of odd sleeping habits, I’m still having a hard time getting onto a normal sleep schedule.  I feel like I have jet lag.  I can’t fall asleep at night, then I’m tired in the middle of the day.  I’m still catching up on some work, and my room needs a serious cleaning (I also have to seriously revamp my laptop as the hard drive is getting full and I’m installing a new OS), so my posts will still be a little slow for another week or so.  I still have much to talk about.  Laterz!

Sick

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

I know it’s been a little quiet around here.  I’ve been sick in bed since Monday.  Once I’m better, I’ll probably still be a little quiet as I catch up.  Laterz!

Co-Pilot?

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

This morning I saw a bumper sticker on my way to work (glad I only have to make that drive only once a week!) that said, “Jesus is my co-pilot”.  I’ve seen that bumper sticker for many years and you probably have, too.  I never really thought much about it.  The other day I saw a phrase (can’t remember where) that said, “If Jesus is your co-pilot, switch seats”.  Now that, I like.  It made me think about the one I saw today in a whole new light.  Have you ever seen a cockpit?  The co-pilot doesn’t fly the plane.  He sits next to the pilot.  He takes over if the pilot gets tired or something happens.  He may talk on the radio and possibly help with navigation (although there is normally a dedicated navigator on commercial flights).  The point is, the co-pilot isn’t normally steering the plane.  Is Jesus the person we hand our life over to when we get tired or if something goes wrong or is He the pilot who is always in control?  Think about that in your own life.  If Jesus is your co-pilot, switch seats!  Laterz!

Halloween

Monday, October 8th, 2007

Well, it’s that time of the year again. I actually started seeing Halloween stuff in the stores around Labor Day. Pretty soon they’ll start selling it right after 4th of July. Anyway, I added a “Halloween” link above which has a short writeup I did a few years back. I kept it short on purpose. It’s not all-inclusive. There is more to the history of Halloween, but it’s mainly along the same lines. I think the ultimate point is still valid, though. Regardless of the history, think about what it currently is. It’s all about ghosts, goblins, demons, the undead, magic, evil, etc. There is so much about it that
is counter to God & the Bible. Should we, as Christians, really celebrate it or even support it? Take a look and feel free to forward it to friends. Laterz!

Updates

Sunday, October 7th, 2007

Well, here are the updates:

1) Still no word on Isaiah.  He’s been through some tests, but nothing’s come out of them.  They gave him some medication in case he has another seizure.  At this point, we’re just waiting.

2) The defense contractor has agreed to wait for me to complete the other contract in Arlington Heights.  As a result, I’ll get to do both.  I’m still waiting to hear back from them, though, as they’re not sure if my dual citizenship will be a problem when I go get secret clearance.

3) I injured my knee when I got slammed into the boards at my soccer game Friday night.  Needless to say, it doesn’t feel good to get slammed, knee first, into a wall.  It’s still sore, but it does seem to be getting better.

Well, I have a million things to do, so that’s all for now.  Laterz!

Dilemma

Friday, October 5th, 2007

Well, now I have a dilemma.  I have two offers.  When all is said and done, the finances work out to the same (although one has the possibility of much more through bonuses).  One is much more in line with my recent experience.  The other would be a programming language I haven’t used in awhile.  One would be 100% telecommuting, the other would probably be about 60-75% telecommuting.  One of them is a defense contractor that would entail occasional trips to Air Force bases and would require I get secret clearance.  I have about an hour or two to make a decision.  I’ll keep you posted.  Laterz!
