Chicago Is…
Monday, August 14th, 2006First of all, there you go Wendy. Not a single reply to my request for people to post if they’re reading my site. By the way, I replied to your comment, so you can click on comments and see your comment as well as my reply. Now, on to my real post.
This weekend I had the opportunity to walk from Union Station to the Adler Planetarium (through Grant Park) and walk from Millennium Park to Navy Pier. The one thing I noticed is that Chicago, for a city that size (roughly 3 million people), has a lot of nice parks and biking/walking/running paths. It was really nice to go to Grant Park and walk around and sit next to Buckingham Fountain. The walk along Lake Michigan from there to the planetarium was nice, as well. There were a lot of people enjoying the nice weather.
Sunday I went to Millennium Park for the first time and there were a lot of people there. People were having picnics and playing frisbee. There was some capoeira demonstration going on. Children were playing in the fountain under the watchful eye of the images of the two huge heads. As we walked to Navy Pier (quite a walk, by the way), we once again ended up walking along Lake Michigan while many Chicagoans enjoyed the not-as-nice, but still nice weather.
I think it was this weekend that I really realized how much better Chicago is than L.A. Six Flags might be smaller and I may not have easy access to Disneyland, Universal Studios, Sea World, six foot waves, Vegas, Frisco, and Mexico, but my day-to-day living is so much better out here. Even when the weather drops to 20 and I’m sipping hot chocolate in front of my fireplace, I don’t think I’ll ever regret finally moving back home.
